In this list of games like Far Cry 3 we’ve considered games for a variety of reasons. First of all, we’ve looked for open world FPS games as that’s Far Cry 3’s genre. We’ve also looked at games with cool stories like Far Cry 3 and great characters like Vaas.

Hard Reset

When you first begin playing Hard Reset it promises everything you could ever want from a shooter. The futuristic guns pack a punch, the graphics are beautiful, the plot gets you hooked into the story. You play as CLN, who is working for an extremely powerful corporation. When the Sanctuary is breached you are forced to down your whisky and head out to fight some robots who are trying to rob some artificial intelligence that could threaten the human race. Typically, there’s more to the story than meets the eye and you soon learn the truth about the corporation you’re working for.

Shadow of the Colossus

Shadow of the Colossus is one of the most influential games in the gaming canon. A solitary affair, you progress through the game in cycles, seeking out the colossi and defeating them. To fight the colossi you’ll reflect light off your sword onto them. It is very hard to define Shadow of the Colossus because it is such a unique game. Part puzzle, part adventure, all amazing. This is one game that simply has to be played.

Wolfenstein The New Order

Wolfenstein: The New Order is a FPS game and successor to the retro (and recent flop) Wolfenstein games. Made by video games developer MachineGames and published by Bethesda, Wolfenstein The New Order is a first person shooter for XBox 360, XBox One, PS3 and PS4.

The game is set in a fictional 1960s in which the Nazi won the Second World War. William B J Blazowicz is charged with launching a counter attack against the Nazis to reclaim the world.

Just Cause 2

Just Cause 2 is a game from video game developer Avalanche Studio ant fall into the action-adventure genre. Just Cause 2 runs on the Avalance 2.0 video game engine. The game is set on the opposite side of the world to its predecessor, locating players in Panau, an island in Southeast Asia. You play Rico Rodriguez as he tries to overthrow Pandak Baby Panay, an evil dictator.

Ghost Recon is a franchise of first person and third person shooters based on books by writer Tom Clancy. The games are specifically designed to create a realistic simulation of military combat. In the game, Ghosts, a special operations team of elite troops, fight their way through a corrupt government hell bent on creating war throughout the world. The games are slow, methodical and tactical, creating a more realistic sense of combat than most shooter games. In the first five games in the series, players controlled a team of elite soldiers

Fallout

Fallout games are set in a post apocalyptic world that has been ruined by nuclear war. The original games in the series were very different to the more shooter-based gameplay of the more recent games. Games in the series are loved for their amazing stories, their fantastic worlds, the role playing game mechanics and their sense of humor. They are the sort of games that you can get completely engrossed in, spending hours playing through all the side quests and exploring every nook and cranny in the game.

Bioshock

Bioshock is one of the most popular and most highly rated series of FPS games of all time, combining classic FPS elements with RPG and a strong story to create a truly unforgettable experience.

Bioshock became one of the most highly rated games ever because of its unique combination of shooter and RPG elements. This has left many gamers searching for more games like Bioshock. Since the original game was released in 2007 the series has seen a few iterations each of which improves on the formula, with the best and most recent game being Bioshock Infinite.

Because it has been viewed as a political game and as an incentive for gamers to get involved with the army, many critics have slammed AA as an immoral use of gaming. But at the same time, America’s Army 3’s realism makes it a highly popular and unforgettable game.

An arena shooter in which you’ll find plenty of freedom to explore and to get lost. It’s a less streamlined affair than most modern shooters, where corridors direct you purposefully from one objective to another. This all makes for speedy action and a lot of replay value that will keep players hooked.

Warcraft 3

Warcraft 3 is one of the best fantasy role playing games of all time and is similar to Blizzard’s other RTS game StarCraft. Warcraft 3 became one of the most popular games in the world and is still played by millions even years after its release. With four races, each with their own in depth story, there’s a lot of longevity in the game.
