About Baldurs Gate

Baldurs gate is a classic retro game from 1998, a fantasy RPG by video game developer Bioware and the first game to use the Bioware engine. It is a Dungeons and Dragons game that allows the player to create their own character, choosing their race, sex, abilities, voice and other options. Once the player has created their character they go on a huge adventure in Sword Coast.

Along your way you’ll fight huge monsters and characters, make allies and fight together to find your mentor’s murderer. Cutscenes tell the games story in pre-rendered movies, creating a (for the time) deep and long story.

Baldurs Gate is faithful to the classic Dungeons and Dragons board game and plays out in real time, though you can pause the game in order to give orders. When you pause the game during combat the game mirrors the actual board game, making this an excellent turn based strategy game.  Much of the combat, like the spells for instance, have direct correlations to the board game, making this a must play game for D&D fans.

The characters and classes are also based on D&D and include dwarves, elves, halflings, humans and gnomes. The races have different strengths and weaknesses meaning that your choice of race will affect the game. Races are also divided into classes: mage, paladin, druid, cleric, fighter, bard, thief and ranger. Each class has its own abilities too, adding further depth to the game.

Baldur’s Gate is a true classic in every sense of the word and one of the best strategy RPG games of all time.
