Archeage was created by video game developer Jake Song, who formerly worked at game development company Lineage. Released in Korea in 2013, Archeage has recently seen a lot of popularity. It’s a “sandpark” MMORPG, which is a cross between a traditional sandbox game and RPG gameplay. Or, to put it another way, it’s Theme Park + RPG game design.

The game took seven years to make, two of which were dedicated to a prolonged game testing period. The gameplay is best thought of as being one of the Theme style games, with added RPG elements, taking place in a sandbox and viewed in third person perspective. Archeage features naval battles in which you must fight to secure trade routes. You’ll need to build and equip your ship with weaponary and manpower to make sure you’re strong enough to win in the battles. In PvP you can attack ships, destroy buildings and castles with siege weapons and create floating cities.

One of the best features of Archeage is the crafting system which offers tons of different options for creating everything from ships to food to equipment. There is also a really cool pet system whee you can but baby pets that grow into mounts and companions. The pets level up the more experience they gain, but they can also be killed in battle.

What makes this such a good game, and arguably better than other games like Archeage, is that it is extremely deep and offers tons of different options. Thankfully, there’s an excellent Archeage guide that you can buy to help you to get started– ArcheAge Official Starting Guide (Enter Brain Mook)
