There are so many games with guns that you’d swear video game developers are getting prepared for World War III. Choosing which are the best games with guns is no mean feat simply due to the staggering level of competition. Nevertheless, we’ve given it a shot. Hit next to get started.
In our list of the best games with guns we’ve considered games for a variety of reasons. First off, the game itself must be high quality. Simply having a ton of awesome weapons in a game isn’t enough to make it on the list, the actual game has to be good too.
Secondly, the best games with gun should feature either extremely realistic or extremely creative weapons. A game like Call of Duty, which aims to create a realistic portrayal of war, should have highly realistic guns, where a science fiction game like Halo should have original and unique weapons.
Next up, weapons should be a heck of a lot of fun because, let’s face it, if you’re not having fun playing a game, what the heck are you doing?! Games like Dead Space contain tons of originally weapons which are truly great fun to kill aliens with. So, bonus points for fun guns.
And that’s about it. Hit the next button and we’ll take a look at the very best games with guns.
Counter Strike comes tenth in our list of the best games with guns. Its best weapon? The AWP, a lethal sniper rifle that will kill enemies in one hit. Now THAT’S “Overpowered”! XD
Valve’s tactical third person shooter Counter Strike is one of the titles that defined the FPS genre and was originally created as a Half-Life mod. The first true Counter Strike game was released in 2000 for Windows and in 2003 for XBOX.
Since Counter Strike’s original release it’s seen numerous sequels: Condition Zero, Source and Global Offensive. In all the games you play as either a team of terrorist or a team of counter-terrorists and must either complete a mission or wipe out your enemy.
Best Weapon: The AWP is Couter Strike’s best weapon, an insanely overpowered sniper rifle that will kill an enemy in one hit, regardless of where it hits them. Combine it with the Desert Eagle for an insanely powerful soldier.
Goldeneye for Nintendo 64 comes in a respectable 9th in our list of the best games with guns. Goldeneye was one of the most innovative and important FPS games of all time. Its best weapon? The RC-P90, a rapid fire gun that sounded amazing and seemed to never run out of bullets.
9: Goldeneye and the RC-P90
Goldeneye was one of those games that was so good you almost couldn’t believe it. Given that Goldeneye was released at a time when the average N64 game was something like Buck Bumble or Wetrix (remember those. . .?) it’s fair to say Goldeneye was ahead of its time.
Graphically, Goldeneye was simply stunning. It’s hard to imagine it these days, but the first time you played Goldeneye you almost couldn’t believe a console game could look so good. And then there was the gameplay: the single player was amazing, and the multiplayer was, frankly, one of the best gaming experiences of all time.
Best Gun: The RC-P90 is Goldeneye’s best weapon, though it comes under heaver competition from the Grenade Launcher, Golden Gun and Rocket Launcher. The RC-P90 felt like a powerhouse in your hands and made for some almost too-easy kills.
The Metal Gear Solid series has never shown too much originality with its guns, but the sheer quality of the series in itself makes it impossible not to include in this list. The best weapons in Metal Gear Solid? Probably the mark 2 pistol, though it’s highly debatable.
8: Metal Gear Solid and the Mark 2 Pistol
It’s not easy becoming one of the most respected games in the world, but over the many years of its existence, Metal Gear Solid has achieved precisely that. With the rumoured Metal Gear Solid 5 on the way now too, there can be little doubt that MGS is one of the best series ever.
A combination of factors going into making MGS so good. It has deep stories with realistic (ish) characters. It pioneered the espionage genre. It’s consistently innovated and pushed gaming to keep itself at the top. And its gameplay is second to none. Plus, the fact that SOlid Snake is possibly gaming’s coolest character ever doesn’t hurt either.
Best Gun: Metal Gear Solid isn’t really about guns (even if guns are a core part of the gameplay). It’s more about stealth and strategy. The Mark 2 is your most trusty weapon and will allow you to take down enemies when you need to without raising the alarm.
Fallout 3 gave the gaming world one of its best stories as we find ourselves in a post-apocalyptic not-too-distant future. With a gripping narrative, exceptional gameplay and the awesome Fatman weapon, Fallout 3 takes seventh place in our list of the best games with guns.
7: Fallout 3 and the FatMan
Take Two Interactive’s Bioshock Infinite has been called one of the best games of all time for good reason. Not only does Bioshock Infinite have one of the best stories of any game and nearly perfect gameplay that will keep you playing for hours, it also has some of the best weapons. Of all Bioshock Infinite weapons, perhaps the handcanon is the absolute best.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2’s single player campaign may have disappointed a lot of fans, but it more than made up for it with an absolutely stunning multiplayer. It’s still one of the most played multiplayer games in the world, despite being released quite a long time ago. The game is packed full of awesome weapons too of which it’s hard to pick the best. My personal favourite Modern Warfare 2 weapon? The ACR.
5: Call of duty Modern Warfare 2 and the ACR
Fourth in our list of the be st games with guns in Conrtra and its spread gun. The fact that Contra is still being discussed in lists like this, despite having been released back in 1987, says a heck of a lot about how good it is. With brilliant gameplay, a difficulty level that has made it a gaming icon (you pretty much need the Konami Code to make it past level 2) and some amazing weapons, Contra will always be one of the best games with guns.

Halo Combat Evolved’s pistol is a weapon that every Halo fan knows a little too well. The pistol is a hand-cannon that can also work as a sniper rifle, thus having both power and range. With this little beauty you’d kill a weaker opponent in one shot and even a tougher enemy in two or three. And then you get the zoom scope on top and hey preso! you’ve got one of the best weapons in any game ever.

Doom is, of course, one of the most well known first person shooters of all time and one of the best. Truly innovative at the time of release, Doom changed the entire gaming landscape. And speaking of changing landscapes, you could destory quite a sizeable chunk of landscape with the Big F***ing Gun, the BFG9000, which would vaporize enemies into a pool of sludge with one shot. Even today, the BFG9000 is one of the best guns in any game ever.

Not only is Half Life one of the best games of all time, but with the Gravity Gun it also provides gaming’s best gun ever: the gravity gun. The Gravity Gun isn’t exactly you’re run-of-the-mill weapon; it doesn’t even have any ammunition. The Gravity Gun has two modes. Firstly, it can be used to fire energy at your enemies that pushes them back. Secondly, you can use it to pick up objects and throw them. Say, is that an explosive barrel I see in the corner over there? KABOOM! The Gravity Gun makes virtually any part of your environment a potential weapon, meaning you can attack enemies in tons of different ways. Genius. Check out the video below for proof of the fact that Half Life 2’s Gravity Gun is the best gun ever.
